...of At the Well

Patty is graciously hosting today's discussion At the Well. She wants to know what we have to share on persistence. Patty asks us to think about our daily lives as a wife, mother and child of God, then answer these questions:

1. What are some ways that you have persisted when you have been knocked down?
  • When I decide to get out of the bed in the morning, in spite of "yesterday's" consuming feelings of inadequacy & failure as a wife, mother and Christian, I have persisted. Disclaimer: Anton, "Evelyn", "Cameron" nor "Janelle", has communicated these things to me. This beating comes from me. I place unrealistic expectations on myself because I attempt to compare myself to others and foolishly try to live up to their expectations!
2. How have these circumstances brought glory to the Father?
  • Need I really write this out? Glory has not been given to Father because of me. Instead, I may have even "scared" someone, or two ;), away because of my "Why me" attitude although my "frantic" life is my fault!

What about you?

  1. I think we all have those moments when we think we are failing and not living up to "our standards." But, the thing to remember is that we cannot be perfect, we can try to be, but it will never happen.

Good for you for persisting and continue to do the great work that God has called you to do!

  2. Oooo! That comparing thing is a bad one!
I used to think every other woman on the planet was a perfect mother - that I was the only one who didn't have it all together. So glad for God's grace and the understanding that I'm not alone.

  3. Hello, friend! First, I want to THANK you for all of your kind comments. Even though I haven't been good at responding, I read them and have been so encouraged- so THANK YOU!!!

Boy, we put high expectations on ourselves, don't we???? We extend grace to everyone but ourselves! I agree with Karen (irritable mother)....I have thought those same things- I am the only one who doesn't have it all together. But, Laurie- we all have dirty mini vans!!!! What I mean is that we think everyone else is perfect and we are failing....The is exactly how the enemy wants us to feel! It isn't true!!!!

That is why we must be honest with one another and allow others to help us when we need it!!! There was a time when I would say, "Oh, no thanks" to offers of help because I thought, "I should be able to handle this all on my own!!!" I have learned better now!! I won't ever turn down help.

Anyway, I also wrote about just surviving the daily life!

I hope you can come by for the Bible Study I am leading...

Oh, you asked me a little while ago about not "beating down Aly."

I found that I kept on and kept on and kept on with her. When she had made a mistake, I didn't need to point it out to her- she was aware. She tends to be a bit clumsy and "accident prone." It doesn't help at all when I say, "Be careful." She IS being careful! I needed to simply close my mouth because I felt like I was pointing out her flaws- something she was already aware of!!! I don't want to crush her little spirit. I dont' want her to think she isn't "good enough." Does that help?

    Blessings, friend!

  6. Larie, ((((hugs)))) Yes, many times we are our worst task-master. It's hard not to compare ourselves to others. We only need to be please the Lord. He will not give us more than we can handle. Our situation is just what He planned for us. It's different than others are asked to live. It is our life and we should do our best in whatever he gives us to do.

I love you, Dear. I am grateful that you are striving to be a good wife and mother.

PS After I visit your blog each day, the song "Sing Alleluia" runs through my mind all day. *smile*
