...of mis-guidance

"The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother." Proverbs 29:15 NIV

Our kids' behavior has been off the chain! When I first noticed the changes in their behavior I could not figure out what was going on. "What's wrong with you?" has blurted from my mouth the last few weeks. Of course they would say, "Nothing" and calm down for maybe two and a half minutes and go right back to acting as if they have had no training at all.

Frustration won me over and exposed me. After repeatedly telling the two oldest to stop running in the house, stop yelling in the house, go outside if you want to throw that ball, get off of your baby sister because she can't play rough like y'all want her to, stop asking for snacks & juice when you know that we don't eat junk all day & that we drink water when we are not sitting down for a meal, and stop going into your Nanna's room to ask her for something that I just told you no about, I thought that they just needed a spanking!

I explained to them that they were being spanked because of their behavior. Yes, I had to stop just before administering the first swat because I realized that their behavior was not really their fault. It was mine. Oh yeah, I admit, okay. They were acting out because of the lack of structure and consistency from me. I'd been in such a foul mood that I "gave up" on everything. Our children no longer knew what I expected of them.

Are y'all praying for me?

  1. Forgive me for laughing, but I did. I could only imagine your moment of motherhood and relate from years gone by. Even at ages 13 and 10, idle time is STILL the Devil's workshop.
    Stay prayerful!

  2. Greetings!

I saw your beautiful family photo over at my sweet sister Beth's from I'm headed toward my destiny and had to pop in. You have a beautiful family and YES, I will pray for you. I look forward to visiting again soon.

I'm beyond the little kids. I have an adult daughter who has my two precious grand daughters and I have a teen daughter off to college in two years and then hubby and I will have an empty nest (happy face and pouty face) but I do remember the days/times of raising little ones. Your post made me smile a bit because it brought back memories.

    God bless you.
