...of her being like me when she grows up

Wednesday is the last day of school! Our two oldest children will be going to my parents’ house on Saturday for about two weeks. Then, I will have all three of my kids home with me for a few weeks before the older two go back to my parents’ house again. I’m almost ready for summer break.

What I mean by that is, I’ve been revamping their chore chart, Bible reinforcement activities and service projects. I really am excited. Not having our oldest daughter here during the day has actually not been as good as I thought it would be. We’d planned to home school but I was not willing to make certain sacrifices. Now, I’m sorry that I didn’t.

She has been influenced negatively as a result of my selfishness. It saddens me that I am no longer the person she wants to fashion herself after. I am not convicted to the point of deciding to home school for the next school year, but, I am going to make some changes over the summer and continue in them throughout the school year until I get out of my own way and become willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

“…They trusted in Him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.” Daniel 3:28 NIV

  1. Just another good thing about summer break. Take back what was yours to begin with - INFLUENCE!

  2. I will be watching my 3 grandaughters during the day during summer vacation. Can I borrow your schedule??? LOL.

I understand about wanting to home school, but this is also an opportunity to teach your daughter how to judge wisely between a right influence and a wrong one. When she is older she will have to make those decisions on her own.

Train up a child in the way they should go...

I'm sure God will lead you to make the best decision. Sometimes it's hard to trust Him with the little ones, I know.

    Much love to you!

  3. I have talked about homeschooling Andrew but Dwight is against it. The thought is very appealing but I don't know that I am that dedicated though I'm sure I would do a good job. I'm quite strict when it comes to education and I don't want to mess it up. The main reason I would want to homeschool is the negative socialization. We live in a very scary world today but like Edie said, Train up a child in the way he should go....

  4. Lord, I pray for Larie. I pray that You will give her the inner strength to carry through these good changes in her life. I pray that she will be a good example to her children, that they will have a blessed, fruitful summer. Amen

  7. Hi there!

I don't think you should feel guilty for putting yourself first... it's not selfishness to value ourselves... it is selfishness when we value ourselves to the NEGLECT of others. Sometimes when our children have to become more self-sufficient without our input, it's not a negative thing at all. They have to be able to stand on their own two feet.

Home-schooling is wonderful but children need to understand how to function with children out there in society and they need to know how to relate to people who don't think like their own parents.

  8. I've thought of homeschooling, but it's not something I feel comfortable with. I'm sorry about the influencing, but if it makes you feel better, that's a part of life and how a person is able to choose to be Godly. If you keep her from certain influences now, she'll certainly face them later, but maybe without you to counterbalance the negative aspects. Still, that's not to say kids shouldn't be sheltered from things.
Sigh. It's a delicate balance, I think. Have a great summer!

  9. Now you know how I feel about homeschooling (being a die hard homeschooler) But it is a personal choice. I honestly think (for me) Homeschooling is the easy way out. When your children attend an academic institution with a mix of all kinds of people you have to work harder and to curb the things that they learn "on the streets". Take the summer time to really reinforce their bible knowledge and love of God. I have seen you in action my sister and your bible studies are awesome. Just having the conviction of wanting to do better is enough. God will guide you as to how He wants you to guide and train up the children. Trust in Him and you can't fail. Love you Re'
